Bald Eagle

The Bald Eagle is the only "fish eagle" that resides strictly in North America. The Bald Eagle can be found in every state of the United States, with the exception of Hawaii. Bald Eagles live primarily near open waters in tall trees or atop man made structures

In 1782 the American Bald Eagle became the Nations symbol. Thousands of Bald Eagles nested across the United States. Some 200 years later the American Bald Eagle has been placed on the Endangered Species list. The near extinction of the Bald Eagle is a direct effect of DDT.

Joint efforts have saved this bird from extinction. Bald Eagles are still being raised in captivity an d released into the wild.

There are other contributing factors to the decline in these majestic birds some include: hunting and poaching for feathers; lead poisoning from eating birds that have been shot with lead bird shot; and also eating poisoned rodents.
